Jimmie Johnston entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on November 23, 2020 after battling respiratory problems at the age of 84. Jimmie was born February 20, 1936 in Ashland, Kentucky and grew up outside the town of Ironton, Ohio where his stepfather, Harold Thompson, owned a garage. Jimmie enjoyed working in the garage and on the various vehicles brought in for service. This love for working with his hands translated into a 23-year active duty career in the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic and after retiring from active duty, was a civilian employee in the same field for 20 more years.
Jimmie was actively involved in The Country Church in Marion, Texas where he and Janice enjoyed the many trips, outings, and excursions with their church.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Rowe Thompson, stepfather, James “Harold” Thompson, sister, Darylyn “Sue” Malone, and his wife, Janice Johnston. Jimmie is survived by his loving children and their spouses: Susan (Scott), Robert (Donna), Richard (Amy) and Diane; his six grandchildren: Christine and Michelle Johnston; Tanner (Hailie), Cody and Landon Johnston, and Preston Doll, and two great grandchildren: Calliope Johnston (Michelle) and Isaiah Johnston (Tanner and Hailie). He is also survived by his brother, Michael (Becky) Thompson; brother-in-law, William F. “Bill” Malone, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the emergency personnel of Schertz EMS for transporting dad to the hospital and for the staff, doctors and nurses at Northeast Baptist Hospital for taking such wonderful, loving care of him. We are also grateful beyond words for the love and support of our family and friends.
Jimmie will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery next to his beloved wife Janice in a private ceremony.
