March 27, 1945-January 6, 2025
Janet E. Zinsmeyer passed away on January 6th at home after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Diagnosed 8 years ago, her response was…” I have Alzheimer’s but Alzheimer’s doesn’t have me, because I have Jesus.” Janet and her devoted husband William E. Zinsmeyer dedicated the last 8 year to raising the awareness of Alzheimer’s and raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association of San Antonio. Their efforts made significant growth in funds raised for the organization. Last fall at the annual Alzheimer’s Gala Janet and Bill were honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award 2024 for their dedication and devotion to the cause. That evening they shared their last public dance together.
Janet was born in 1945 in Bloomington, Indiana to Lt. Colonel L.R. and wife Jeanne Sparks. They moved to San Antonio in 1962. Janet attended Robert E. Lee High School and as a senior asked junior William “Bill” Zinsmeyer to the prom and they celebrated 59 years together December 30th, 2024.
Janet was an amazing, loving and disciplined Mother shepherding her three children through Churchill High School and beyond. During this time, she and Bill founded Amcorp Inc. financial advisory and insurance agency in 1976. When the grandchildren began to appear in addition to their extensive charity and church work, she and Bill never missed a grandchild's game or concert.
Janet is survived by her husband William Zinsmeyer, and their children Vincent Zinsmeyer (Kimberly), Craig Zinsmeyer (Amy), Alisa Zinsmeyer Young (William Young). Her grandchildren, Emily Zinsmeyer Aleman (Alex), Brantley Zinsmeyer, Zachary Zinsmeyer (Laneesiyah), Nicholas Zinsmeyer, Summer Young, Kathryn Young and great grandchild, Luca Aleman.
She is also survived by her loving sister, Marsha Suarez of Pensacola, FL and her children. And brother-in-law, Glenn Sterling Zinsmeyer (Louis Bixenman).
Janet and Bill’s efforts raised awareness of Alzheimer’s and significantly increased participation in the annual Walk To End Alzheimer’s, San Antonio.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 1:00 at Oak Hills Church at 19595 IH 10 W, San Antonio, TX 78257-9520
