Bill was born into his military family at Fort Monroe, VA to Lois and Herb Hopper. As his father was an Army officer Bill was well-traveled in his youth living in Hawaii, France, and Germany as a boy. After dad's retirement at Fort Sam Houston in 1964, the family remained in San Antonio. Bill's young, yet booming voice, rising above the volume of summer pool parties is remembered by friends and neighbors to this day. Bill loved thrills, becoming a professional scuba diver in the mid-70s, working off-shore oil & gas platforms, underwater pipeline inspection and demolition.
After living on the Gulf Coast for several years, he met the love of his life Kathy, who became his wife of 45yrs. They settled in San Antonio near both of their families to start their own. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and barbeques with family and friends. Big Bend National Park was a favorite destination for extended camping trips.
Bill had a reliable sense of humor and an irreverence that lifted moods and eyebrows! He was a positive source of camaraderie, spirit, and good nature.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Alyssa; son, Cameron; grandchildren, Hailee and Robert William; great-niece, Angela; sister, Monica; brother, Walter; and countless friends.
All who knew Bill loved him and will miss him deeply. A memorial service will be held from 12:00pm - 4:00pm on Sunday, August 6th, 2023 at the VFW Hall, 8795 FM 1560, San Antonio, TX 78254.
