Harry M. Wagener

Harry M. Wagener, 79, passed away in San Antonio, Texas on September 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He had just returned from the San Antonio Honor Flight #22 to Washington, D.C., where he was honored for his military service. Born March 20, 1947, in New York, New York, Harry was raised in Glen Gardner, New Jersey, before eventually making San Antonio his home, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Harry shared his life with his beloved wife of 28 years, Alice Friesenhahn Wagener, building a partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and adventure. Before that chapter began, Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for nine and a half years as a veterinary technician, including two tours in Korea during the Vietnam era. After completing his military service, he settled into a career as a machinist in San Antonio, a trade he worked for more than 40 years, earning a reputation for steady hands and an honest day's work.

When he wasn't working, Harry was happiest outdoors — grilling, hunting, fishing, and competing in chili cookoffs. He and Alice loved visiting wineries together, savoring good company as much as the scenery. A deeply patriotic man, Harry never stopped supporting the troops. He rode with the Patriot Guard Riders and the American Legion Riders, honoring fellow veterans and standing watch for those who could not stand for themselves. Above all, Harry was known for his generosity — the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to a friend, a family member, or anyone in need.

Harry is survived by his wife, Alice Friesenhahn Wagener; his children, George P. Taylor, Jr. and wife Olivia, Trenton T. Taylor, Melissa Taylor Liles and husband Charles Liles, and Mathew E. Taylor and wife Kimberly; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, several cousins, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helene and Harry Wagener, and his daughter-in-law, Korinne Taylor.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 2nd, 3:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) in Harry's memory.
