Glenn B. Dietrich was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Clara and George Dietrich. He attended Beaumont High School in St. Louis and then the University of Missouri, Columbia and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. It was at the University of Missouri that he met his wife of 51 years, Vicki. Following work at McDonnell-Douglas, he moved to San Antonio in 1969 to work at Randolph Air Force Base as an information systems consultant with the Planning Research Corporation. Glenn earned his Master’s in Business Administration in 1977 from the University of Texas at San Antonio and began teaching part time. He then started working full time at USTA and earned his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. While at UTSA, he founded and was the first director of the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security and played a critical role in the creation and growth of the cyber security program at UTSA. Glenn helped develop both the undergraduate and graduate programs in cyber security as well as minors in other areas of information systems and cyber security. While the program is nationally recognized, Glenn was most proud of the number and quality of students that graduated, as well as the work he did with the Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and active-duty service members. In 2016 he was named to the Cyber Texas Foundation Cyber Hall of Honor in their inaugural class and received a San Antonio Business Journal Tech Titan special achievement award.
Glenn was also very involved in youth soccer in the 1970s-1990s, acting as President for the Northeast Youth Soccer Organization in San Antonio and the South Texas Youth Soccer Organization that covered San Antonio, Austin, Houston and the rest of South Texas. He also coached Vicki on the Peppers soccer team. He was active with the American Cancer Society as a volunteer and board member. Later life brought an interest in organic gardening which continued until his passing.
Glenn is survived by son Jeff and his wife Suzie, son Todd, his sister Claire Gross, grand children Calvin and Alexander, nieces Cheryl Sunderland, Karen Quagliano, Laurel Marks, and Gretchen Dietrich, nephew Scott Dietrich, and their families
