Florentina M. Torres-Alvarez

She was born on October 16, 1944 in Gonzales, Texas to Felix and Josefa Molina.

Flora grew up in Gonzales but she also spent time with family members in Corpus Christi and Yoakum. She was quite young when she met her soon-to-be husband Lawrence B. Torres. They married, moved to San Antonio and raised their 4 children. Flora was a loving mother, and a very active volunteer at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and School where her children attended. In time, she became a Grandmother to 6 and was affectionately known as MoMo to them. Sadly, she and Lawrence parted ways and divorced although they remained close friends. She met Marcos and after many evenings dancing the night away, he won her heart. They married in 2003.

She loved spending time with family and friends, music, dancing and painting but most of all loved creating and sharing flower arrangements and wreaths.

Flora was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Anthony Torres, and parents; Felix and Josefa Molina.

Flora is survived by her husband; Jose Marcos Alvarez; children from her marriage to Lawrence Torres: Esther and husband John Davis, Debbie and husband Ernest Rose, Priscilla and husband Kevin Driskill. Grandchildren: Erica Davis, Stephen Davis, Brittany Rose-Barnes, Mitchell Rose, Christopher Driskill and Michael Driskill. Siblings: Joe Molina, Benny Molina and spouse Tillie, Felix Molina and spouse Aurora, Elvia Gallegos, and George Molina and spouse Shirley; Marcos’ children: Gracie and husband Daryl Varnado, John-Michael and wife Gloria Alvarez and Maggie Alvarez. She will also be missed by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul House of Mercy Chapel, 1201 Donaldson Ave. on Friday, May 19, 2017. Visitation; 9:30am, Rosary; 10:00am, Funeral Mass at 10:30am. Internment of ashes at San Fernando Cemetery #2 following the Mass.
