4 January 1936 - 23 February 2025
Schertz, Texas
Ethel R. Schmig, 89, was called home to Heaven and gained her angel wings 23 February 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family at her home.
“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” John 14:2-3
Ethel was born 4 January 1936 to Clifford and Ethel Morse, in Bay City, Michigan. She worked briefly in a factory producing auto parts and moved on to get married and become a stay-at-home mother raising her children, taking care of others, and building a beautiful life for them all to remember. What she loved most in life was her children and grandchildren and being as involved with them as she could. Her daughter Kelli joined the Army in 1991, and Ethel moved with her spending time in Germany, Georgia, Texas as well as travelling the world and seeing new places. Most of all she was doing what she loved the most and that was helping her daughter raise her two children Shantal and Frederick while her own daughter served this Country. She often travelled home to Michigan to visit her other daughters and grandchildren as they were all the most important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, sitting on the porch in her chair watching and feeding the birds, she always enjoyed company and conversation. She liked to listen to music, watch her "soap operas” as she would say and working in the garden at her daughter Shari’s house with her husband Jeff when she visited them in Michigan. Her favorite animal was a elephant, which made all the sense because In the wild, female elephants are known as fierce protectors just as she protected her family. She could do just about anything she put her mind to, she was our doctor, our therapist, our seamstress and do it at home yourself fixer. There wasn’t a thing she couldn’t fix with her duct tape and super glue. She enjoyed sitting back and just watching her family grow, she documented everything writing in her journals every day for years, she kept everyone's important dates written down, addresses, birthdays and significant events because she was so proud of her family. She enjoyed life and the smallest things made her happy, just to have her family visit her was enough. She was our family’s historian and keeper, every picture, every school graduation pamphlet, even the smallest trinket from the smallest memory she kept safe. She enjoyed the details that people would normally miss like the buds on the roses blooming or the bird bath needing more water, the colors on a bird’s wings or leaves, that just sums up who she was as a person, nurturing, caring and the center of her family’s life.
She is preceded in death by her brothers John (Jack) Morse, William (bill) Morse, Clifford Morse, Ronald Morse and her grandson Jeffery Hinkle.
She is survived by her sister Delores Gentle. Her daughter Cindy Eversole (Tim) of El Paso, Texas and their children Timmy, Thomas and Tammy and great grandchildren Katie, Ryan, Emmalee and Zachary.
Her daughter Shari Hinkle (Jeffery Sr.) of Fairview, Michigan and their children Katie Troyer (Gayln) and her great grandchildren Addalyn and Jackson. Preceded by her grandson Jeffrey.
Her daughter Kelli Robinson (Edward) of Schertz, Texas and her children Shantal Gray (Greg) their children Harmony, Wisdom and Christian, her sons Frederick and Quayon.
Her daughter Darci Schmig of Bay City, Michigan and her children Janessa Gwyther (Patrick) and their children Hayes and Ames, and her son Darius.
