Ernest Glen Mayes passed on April 4, 2016 at his home in Canyon Lake, Texas. He was born to Eva McBee and Ernest Grey Mayes on August 5, 1931 in Mirando City, Texas in Webb County. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alma Claudine Curry Mayes, a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Leigh Mayes Palacios of Corpus Christi, Texas, an adopted daughter, Kristina Marcella Kupke of Canyon Lake, two stepdaughters, Donna Daniel Cognasi of Plattsville, Alabama and Billie Ellen Curry Dyer of Palestine, Texas, and two stepsons, Raiford Daniel III of Amarillo, Texas and Clifford Claude Daniel of Plainview, Texas Ernest served his country in the Army and later in the Army reserve as an Engineer Supply Specialist for 8 years. He received the UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, and a Korean Service medal. Ernest was an engineer with Celanese in Bishop, Texas for 37 years. Ernest was a life-time member of the VFW and American Legion. He served as commander of the local chapter in 1997 and 2007.
