Elroy (Roy) Albert Grohman passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born in Bastrop, Texas on January 20, 1936 to George and Mary Grohman. Roy attended Edison High School in San Antonio and had a life-long career as a journeyman electrician. He was heavily involved with St. Mary Magdalen’s Catholic Church, serving in many capacities within the church and with the CYO program. He found joy in coaching Lisa’s softball team, the Sparkettes, for over a decade, leading them to several city championships.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 59 years, Necke Helene Wagner Grohman. He is survived by his three children: Keith Grohman, Chris Grohman (Debbie), Lisa Grohman Hoffman (Roger), as well as his granddaughter, Megan Nicole Hoffman.
Roy loved the outdoors - hunting and fishing with his family. He modeled for his children the importance of hard work and that your worth was held in your words. He taught them to respect their elders and to treat everyone as equal.
Roy adored his wife Necke who was his anchor. Their 59 years together included camping on the beach, trips to the deer lease, sporting events for their three children, and a house that was always welcoming to everyone. A man who could be seen as tough to those who worked with him, but a man who would do anything for others. It was not uncommon for him to be called at all hours of the night to give directions, help with vehicle problems or other issues. Roy was the epitome of hard work, dedication and love.
His heart was softened with the birth of his only granddaughter Megan. He spent countless hours playing with her, spoiling her, and watching her athletic career. Besides his wife, Megan held the deepest part of his heart.
Roy’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower St., San Antonio, TX 78201. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10:30 AM and a reception will follow the service in the church hall.
The family truly appreciates all the messages and prayers. They would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Villa de San Antonio and Sunshine Senior Living.
