Edith M. Herren, 93, died unexpectedly on June 30, 2026, at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, TX. She was born on January 15, 1933, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the daughter of Willie Lee and Alma Bessie Martin of Utica, MS.
Edith is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda Sanders (Bob) and Pam Kitchens (Kent); her sons, Jeffrey Herren (Jackie) and Phillip Herren (Rhoda); five cherished grandchildren; and nine beloved great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life, and the love she shared with them will continue to be felt for generations to come.
After retiring from a successful career in the Federal civil service, Edith enjoyed her farm life in Sutherland Springs, TX. She found great joy in square dancing, woodworking, quilting, and sewing, creating not only beautiful things but also lasting memories with those she loved. Because she loved to sing, she was often active in the church choir.
Edith especially enjoyed celebrating her birthdays, as they gave her another opportunity to be surrounded by her family and friends. Also, one of Edith's greatest pleasures was spending time outdoors, especially at the family's annual blackberry-picking tradition in Washington State. Gathering with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each year brought her much happiness.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family and friends.
A service of remembrance will be held on July 25, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Windcrest United Methodist Church located at 8101 Midcrown Drive, Windcrest, TX 78239. In lieu of flowers, family and friends should make a donation to their favorite charity or church in remembrance of Edith.
