Edgar Augustin Marshall, Jr., Colonel (Ret.), United States Army, of San Antonio, passed away May 1, 2025. At 88 years of age, he died peacefully at his home residence he shared with his loving wife, Joan Marshall. He was born on September 24,1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ed was an only child to Isabelle Quinn and Edgar Augustin Marshall, Sr. The family moved to San Antonio when Ed was a young child.
Ed graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1955. He attended St. Mary’s University for two years before transferring to Texas A&M University. As a double major, he graduated as class of 1959 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Construction.
As a career Army soldier of 27 years, Ed served his country bravely and with valor. He served two tours in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, three Bronze Stars, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and two Meritorious Service Medals. Ed’s military career in the Corp of Engineers was varied; his last military assignment was as the Director of Engineer Operations at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Upon military retirement Ed continued to serve in the field of engineering for eight years as the Director of Architecture, Engineering and Construction Division for the University of Maryland at Baltimore (UMAB). In his final career working years he was a Military Analyst for VISTA Information Technologies, Inc.
After retiring, Ed worked his way back to his beloved hometown of San Antonio. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan (Burghardt) Marshall, along with three children from a previous marriage: Edgar ‘Jeep’ Augustin Marshall, III; Erin (William) Marshall Robinson; Patrick (Ann) Marshall, and seven grandchildren: Nicolas Marshall, Kenneth (Haruna) Robinson, Nathan Robinson, Brian Robinson, Ellie Marshall, John Marshall, and Allison Marshall.
Ed will be remembered for his stories, his mischievous antics, and the twinkle in his blue eyes. Edgar Augustin Marshall, Jr. will be buried with honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Service date is pending now.
