Mammaw, as she was known by family, kids, friends kids, neighbors and any one she met, was the definition of strength. She had hard life, but never let it best her. She was a fabulous cook, quilter, and seamstress. There was nothing more in this world, she loved more than her family, especially her grandchildren. She was always up for an adventure or a road trip.
Dorothy attended and graduated from Waelder School and attended Brenham Business School. She worked for Bell Telephone in San Antonio and retired as registrar at East Avenue Elementary in Gonzales, Texas. She had memory that was long and deep and could tell a story in a way that would have you hysterical. She lived at home, did her own laundry, cooking and housekeeping, until she had to have pacemaker replacement in December 2023. She went in as Mammaw and came out a stranger who I loved and tried to take care of every day until her last breath.
Mammaw is being cremated and there will be no funeral by her written wishes. A Memorial Service will be held for her, Saturday, April 5th at 2 p.m. at the Thompsonville Community Church, County Road 423, Waelder. Texas 78959.
