DonAthy Dianne Miller Nicholson, lovingly known as Dee, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, just one day shy of her 82nd birthday. She was born on April 15, 1944, in Barron, Wisconsin, where she began a life defined by devotion to family, kindness, and quiet strength.
DonAthy was the beloved wife of James “Jim” Nicholson, whom she met while attending the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Their love story began in college and led to their marriage on February 27, 1965, a partnership that would span decades and serve as the foundation of a close-knit and loving family.
She was a devoted mother to Laurie Nicholson and Christine Janusiak; Tracey and Bob Greenwald; and Jim Nicholson and Dawn Kitchen. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Elias Esquivel, Ashley Greenwald, Ally Greenwald, Dylan Nicholson, and Nash Nicholson. She was also deeply loved by many extended family members and friends, including David Kinney, Pattye Miller, Jodi Klare (Karl), Kelly Miller (Candie), and Mandi Miller.
Dee graduated from Barron High School and went on to attend UW–Madison. She dedicated her life first and foremost to her family as a stay-at-home mother to her three children. Later, she worked in an elementary school special education classroom, offering care and support to children. She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and lovingly organized Christmas programs for many years. In addition, she worked for BWO Insurance Company.
For 55 years, Dee made her home in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she built lasting friendships and a strong community. In later years, she moved to Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, to enjoy warmer weather and be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
Dee found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with her family, shopping, and traveling. She was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed following her favorite golfers, and treasured her time with her Red Hat group. She was especially known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, which brought comfort and happiness to many.
She will be remembered as kind, loving, and deeply compassionate—a wonderful listener, a fierce advocate and protector of those she loved, and a constant, selfless presence in the lives of others. Her strength and unwavering care leave a lasting imprint on all who knew her.
Dee was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Nicholson; her parents, Dorothy Miller Haium and Donald Miller; and her brother, Rick Miller.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her honor to a local charity of your choice.
DonAthy’s life was a testament to love, family, and quiet generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
