Donald Sims (Bubba), age 89, passed away on June 9, 2017, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, after prolonged illnesses. He was born on May 5, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas, to Gertrude and Eddie Sims. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, country and western music and dancing whenever he could.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, served as a Merchant Marine in Vietnam and retired as an operating engineer for companies such as Coca-Cola, Canada Dry and the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
He’s preceded in life by his mother and father, Gertrude and Eddie Sims; his sister, Ethel Williamson (Sister); his brothers, Larry (Nootsie), George (Dinkie) and Lloyd (Sonnyboy) Sims; his son Kenneth Sims; nephews and nieces, Ronnie Williamson, Ricky Williamson and Jody Sims-Brinegar; and his wife of 50 years Edith Sims and wife Fern Houseton Sims.
He is survived in life by his daughters, Trisha Sims and Donna Vasbinder; grandchildren, Lisa Walsh-Leue, Ryan and Sara Sims, Shane Zoeller, Bode Vasbinder, Cody Halbardier; great-grandchildren, Clara Sims, Dakota Vasbinder, Cole Halbardier, Shane Zoeller, Jr. Taylon Zoeller, Bristol Halbardier, Max Leue; nieces Connie McCullough and Debbie Stiefer, nephew Tim Williamson and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; his favorite little adopted Mini Schnauzer Dusty; and his lifelong dear friend and confidante to the very end, Dotty Stanley
Services will be held at the Sam Houston Veterans Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, July 10, 2017, at 10:45 a.m., located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
