Dominique Barbier was born in Epernay, France. He had fond memories of growing up close to grandparents, and having a mother who was a wonderful cook, and a father who worked hard at managing a local vineyard.
He attended UC-Berkeley in the 1960's, and got his degree in city planning. He returned to France and worked in that field for over a decade. In one trip back to the United States to visit old friends from college, he was introduced to the lovely Jenny Peters. Their romance blossomed, and they were married in 1983, at which time he moved to the US. They made several moves associated with her job, including time spent in Arlington, Texas, in Hawaii, and ending up in San Antonio for retirement.
Dominique worked on many development projects in the places where they lived, including a Honolulu waterfront development plan, and hotel, convention center, and correctional center development projects in Honolulu and Oahu.
He also expanded his personal business to include the landscape architecture field. He did landscape design for several hotels in San Antonio, and even for the famous Alamo Cafe in San Antonio.
After his wife's death in 2014, he chose to remain in San Antonio, because it had become the place he considered home, and held many fond memories of his years together with Jenny and their friends in San Antonio
