Today, we gather to honor the remarkable life of Dennis DeMar Baker — a life shaped by courage, curiosity, love, and adventure. We celebrate a man among men, who was born in 1941, came of age in a transformative era, and lived every moment with strength and purpose.
From a young age, he understood what service meant. His time in the Navy was not just a chapter, but a foundation — a testament to his discipline, bravery, and commitment to something greater than himself. On the water or beneath it, the ocean always called to him.
It was only fitting that someone with a soul as deep and steady as the sea found peace in its currents, whether sailing above or scuba diving far below, discovering worlds few would ever witness. He was not only a man of discipline and strength, but also incredible determination.
His passion for speed and challenge led him to a remarkable achievement — winning the Supercross title. That victory wasn’t just a trophy; it was a reflection of his grit, his drive, and his belief that limits existed only to be pushed past.
Yet for all his grand adventures and accomplishments, his greatest pride was always at home. He adored his family. His love for his devoted wife, Phyllis, was constant, unwavering, and true — a partnership filled with loyalty, respect, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they built a life rich in adventure and warmth. And he loved his son, Kyle, and daughter, Sherry, fiercely, guiding, protecting, and supporting them with a heart as large and steady as his presence. He taught by example — to be brave, to be loyal, to chase dreams, and to stand strong even when life becomes turbulent.
And in a way that speaks uniquely to the tenderness of his spirit, he held a special affection for the smallest companions — his beloved kitty cats. The same man who conquered oceans and racetracks could be found content and smiling with a cat curled beside him. That quiet gentleness revealed who he truly was: courageous, but soft-hearted; strong, but deeply loving.
Today we say goodbye, but we do not lose him. He lives on in every lesson he taught, in every adventure he inspired, in every loving memory we carry forward. The waves he made in this world — through service, passion, devotion, and love — continue to ripple in the lives of those he touched.
We honor him. We miss him. And we are forever grateful for the time we had.
Fair winds and following seas — until we meet again.
Preceded in death by his Father, mother and brother. Survived by daughter. Sherry, sons Kyle and Jeff, grand children, Alex and Bayleigh and a great grandson, Richard.
