It is with tremendous love and gratitude that the Addkison and Brown families announce the peaceful passing of Delores Jean Allen. Known by friends as “Jean” and family as “Grannon,” she was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Delores Jean Wonn was born on the 13th of April, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas and spent her formative years in Texas and Kansas. She graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio and then worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone.
Within a few short years, she found her way to the love of her life, husband Brodie Allen. They lived throughout Texas and raised two wonderful daughters, Linda and Sharon.
Jean was an artist who saw beauty everywhere around her. An accomplished painter who studied with Dalhart Windburg and Larry Dyke, she showed her work and won awards throughout Texas. Jean produced hundreds of paintings in acrylic, oil, and watercolor. These paintings were the colorful backdrop to the lives of all of her friends and family and they were a constant reminder to all of us that inspiration and comfort can always be found in the beauty and joy of our lives and our natural world.
Jean loved to travel, and she and Brodie saw much of the world. They brought back beautiful photos and stories, and Jean shared those joys with her family and friends and inspired them to be curious and compassionate.
One of Jean’s greatest joys, and the focus of the second half of her life, was her grandchildren. It is safe to say that to the grandchildren, “Grannon” was Love. She was ALL the good things. She radiated kindness. She was patient and creative, and funny, and generous, and curious and encouraging and wise… and, more. She always listened, she always cared and she was so, so proud of them all -- just for being themselves.
In so many ways, Jean was lucky and blessed, and her friends and family have been showered by some of that same magic and protection provided by the divine. God was important to her, and she lived in the Light. She has now gone to the source of that Light and is with her beloved Brodie. We will honor her memory with our kindness and smiles, patience and humor.
She made all of us better. We will pass on that Love and Light to others and it will grow as our friendships and families grow.
Jean is survived by her adoring grandchildren: Michael Addkison, Christina Skaggs, Jeanne Addkison, Brodie Brown, Katie O’Neale, and Josh Brown; her great-grandchildren: Andrew Skaggs, Zac Addkison, Jessica Duba, Micah O’Neale, Lilian O’Neale, and Kaia Brown; her daughters Linda Addkison and Sharon Brown, and her sons-in law Bob Addkison and Dennis Brown.
