Debbie Lee Duecker Hamer, age 68, went home to be with her Lord on September 17, 2021, in San Antonio, TX. She was born in San Antonio, TX on August 4, 1953, to Clarence “Pinkie” Albert Duecker, Jr. and Nellie “Bubbles” Louise Mahler Duecker Wheeler, who preceded her in death.
Debbie was also preceded in death by her adoring husband of 29 years, Edgar Gene Hamer; her sister and brother-in-law, Donna Duecker Davison (Ralston); aunts and uncles-in-law Catherine Naegelin (John) and Ruby Keil (Philip); her aunt Joan Duecker Fryar; and uncle-in-law Harry C. Lawson, Jr. She is survived by her aunt, Evelyn Duecker Lawson; her uncle-in-law, Lambert H. Fryar, Jr; 2 stepchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; numerous cousins; and lifelong friends.
Debbie was a 1971 graduate of John Marshall High School, where she was captain of the pep squad. Debbie worked for USAA for 13 years both in Texas and California before retiring and returning to San Antonio to work for the San Antonio Municipal Court, from 2002 to 2016. Debbie’s creativity and zest for life was unmatched and she never missed an opportunity for adventure. An invitation to travel was always met with a resounding “yes!” and many of her family and friends were blessed to join her journeys over the years. A lifelong learner, Debbie was an avid Texas history buff who spent decades donating her time and talent to the Helotes Festival Association, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, the Women’s Club of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. After having served as a princess in the Miss Helotes Scholarship Pageant in 1970, she also spent many recent years in voluntary service for the organization.
Debbie possessed a wicked sense of humor, an amazing sense of style, unwavering authenticity, and a generous spirit in her relationships with family, friends, colleagues, and strangers alike. Debbie was fiercely loyal to her loved ones, and always on hand to support them in both their highest and lowest moments. She is so loved and missed beyond comprehension.
To honor Debbie’s memory, the family welcomes donations to the following organizations as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers:
