David Charles Michalec, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away February 14, 2017, at the age of 67. Dave was born on November 2, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Otto L. Michalec and Mary Dolezal Michalec. Dave is preceded in death by his father Otto Michalec. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Evelyn Moczygemba Michalec, son Christopher Michalec and wife Jessica, grandson James and granddaughter Erin of Richmond, Texas, daughter Karen Michalec and fiancée Gilbert Cervantes of Helotes, Texas, his mother, Mary Michalec, brothers Al Michalec (Kathryn), Ray Michalec, Pat Michalec (Sharon), and Joe Michalec. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Sr. Dorothy Moczygemba, Irene Woelfel (Gene) and brothers-in-law Lee Moczygemba (Helen), Alvin Moczygemba (Bernadette), Gene Moczygemba (Mary), and Mark Moczygemba (Lynette). Dave also leaves behind nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and neighbors who will miss him dearly. Dave and Evelyn met through mutual friends at a Western dance, and partnering in dance led them to become partners for life. Dave was a people person who loved to tell stories and make people laugh. His playfulness often found him on the floor playing dolls and tea party with his granddaughter and playing baseball and fishing with his grandson. He loved spending time outdoors with his son and daughter, fishing, target shooting, and enjoying nature. Dave was very hands-on and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed working on cars, carpentry, and helping family and friends. In his younger years, he attended and played baseball for Holy Cross High School and led the Holy Cross Knights Baseball Team to the State Championship in 1968. Dave played pitcher, third baseman, and out-fielder and was named to the All State team. He continued his education at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Big Dave went on to an outstanding baseball career for the St. Mary’s University Rattlers and the Atlanta Braves as a catcher. Dave batted fifth behind the Braves clean-up hitter, a guy named Hank Aaron. Dave later enjoyed coaching his son Chris in Little League and supporting his daughter Karen in club and high school volleyball. On Friday, 2/24/2017, a Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 13715 Riggs Road, Helotes, Texas.
