David was loved so much by all who knew him. He was described as a kind gentle soul recently when they heard how he rescued a baby hummingbird. He loved being outdoors with nature. He had a green thumb and could make flowers bloom and plants flourish without much effort.
David was always a hard worker. Diligent, steadfast and reliable. He worked 48 years in construction, drywall and metal framing on high risers in San Diego and throughout California. Incredibly he was part of a group that built a house in 2 hours and 45 minutes that aired on the show “That’s Incredible” back in the 80s.
Besides being a construction worker he was a great carpenter on his own time and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family home and others. After a hard day’s work, he could easily be found in the garage spending time with his beloved 57 Chevy, talking to neighbors, in the backyard watering plants or BBQing.
He also loved sports, playing softball with friends, volleyball with family, going to San Diego Padre games and coaching his son's baseball team for many years.
In high school David was a proud Fredericksburg Battling Billies football player, with one of the best teams ever. He remembered that team fondly and enjoyed talking about it. During that time he met his wife, Linda who was a car hop at the local Burger place. He also enjoyed cruising Main Street with his brother and friends.
David loved San Diego but was happy to come home to his Texas roots and spend more time with family.
David is survived by his Wife, Linda Martinez; his Son, David Keith; Grandson, Anthony; Daughter, Debi Winger; Son in-law, Dale Winger; Sister, Susana Salinas; Brother, Tino Martinez, and wife Susana; and numerous extended family, cousins, nephews and nieces.
David is preceded in death by his parents Sisto and Seferina Martinez. Sisters, Alice Cruz, Juana Salinas, Jeanette Salinas, Margaret Rios, Catarina East, brothers Joe Martinez and Cisco Martinez.

Walk with me to the water,
When it comes my time.
What we say will not matter,
Just keep your hand in mine.
I’ll cross the water by myself,
I know that’s what I must do.
But the chilling sting won’t be felt,
because I’ve walked with you.
