Daniel K. Hopgood (Dan) of Seguin Texas passed away on October 9, 2023 at the age of 79. He was born on October 12, 1943 in Washington DC where he grew up nearby with his brothers and sisters until enrolling in college and the ROTC program. Dan graduated from Florida Southern college in May of 1965 and began his service in the Army. He would serve two tours in Vietnam as a member of the Army special forces and then continue his career in the Army and subsequently the Army reserves until his retirement at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dan also obtained his Master's Degree from the University of Nothern Colorado while working in civilian service for the Department of the Army until his retirement from the Tank Automotive Command in Warren, Michigan. While working full time in civilian service and part time in the Army reserve, he also taught college business courses, in his spare time.
Despite all his military and civilian career accomplishments, where he really shined was in retirement. Retiring at the age of 49, he would spend many years traveling the country in his RV (his favorite past-time along with golfing) visiting family, friends and seeing the country. Sequin, Texas became home in 2006 but at some point, every year the road would always call his name. His visits with friends and family around the country came to be expected and will be missed by many.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Odillian Hopgood. He is survived by his son and daughter in-law Daniel R. and Tammy Hopgood, and his three grandchildren Justin, Brendan, and Jordyn. He loved his family above all else and was immensely proud of them, sharing his pride and their successes with anyone who would listen. No matter where his travels took him, he never missed a weekly call to his son and daughter in law, never missed a birthday, and was always there for his family.
The family would like to thank the Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services for their care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Interment will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be determined and memorial service will be arranged at that time. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in their honor to either the Boy’s Town Organization or St. Jude Children’s hospital.
