On July 7, 2023, Clifford "C J" Sloan Jr. peacefully passed away in Portland, Texas. He is survived by his children, Kathryn & Jimmy Ashworth, Steven and Joelle Sloan, David Sloan, and Cyndy Sloan,5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren Additionally, he is survived by his brother in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Elizabeth Brooks, as well as numerous caring cousins. C J was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Blanche Sloan, and his brothers, Clyse and Rubert.
Clifford "C J" Sloan Jr. was born on August 30, 1933, in Maize, Mays County, Oklahoma, to Clifford and Blanche Hurlbut Sloan. He quickly made his way to, Texas, when his parents relocated to Clarkwood, Texas in 1940.
In 1953, C J married the love of his life, Barbara (Babs) Brooks. Their love story spanned 61 years, filled with countless cherished memories until she passed in 2014.
C J dedicated many years of his life to the Oil & Gas industry before transitioning to the Plastics business. He had a passion for bird hunting with his faithful companion, Dixie, a German Short Hair Pointer. He truly enjoyed fishing, particularly floundering in his earlier years and later turning his attention to catch Redfish while trolling in his beloved boat. C J had a remarkable ability to connect with people and cherished his close friends, including Todd, Robert, Rip, Ken, Doc, Edwin and countless others. He never met a “stranger”. To know him was to love him!
C J proudly served his country as a member of the Texas National Guard 36th Division at Fort Hood, Texas, from 1952 to 1956.
A private “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date to honor and remember the remarkable life of Clifford "C J" Sloan Jr.
