Chief Master Sergeant Billy H. Majors, Retired, was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force for 26 years and a resident of San Antonio passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, with his loving wife, Lucy Majors by his side.
He was born on May 8, 1931, in Montecillo, Arkansas to his loving parents Otto and Iva Majors, who are preceded in death. Bill grew up in Montecillo, Arkansas and was the youngest of five children.
At the age of 19, Bill was drafted during the Korean War by the Air Force and sent to basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. In March of 1952, he met a girl also in the Air Force named Lucy. They became inseparable, developed a friendship, then married at Lackland Air Force Base in September of 1952 and were one month short of their 71st anniversary. They were always friends, not just husband and wife. Bill went on to serve his country with his family by his side while stationed in Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Guam and Turkey during the 50’s to the 70’s.
During this time, he developed a high security radar communications to support The Vietnam War. He was recognized for his leadership and organizational abilities and promoted to Chief Master Sergeant.
The Airforce recognized him for his honorable service by honoring him with a Bronze Star, the Meritorious Medal, and the 4 Oak Leaf Cluster. Bill was proud to serve his country and after 26 years of service, he retired from the Air Force and he and his loving wife Lucy Majors started a business known as Lucy’s Cake Shop in San Antonio. Again, they worked side by side with each other and their daughter, Beverly, to provide specialty cakes for family celebrations for 45 years.
He loved going to work, it was his happy place. Being with customers and all his employees, who were like his children, made him happy. He helped so many of them with guidance and life decisions, he was a mentor to many and a great boss to all. He was a hard worker whose day started at 5:30 a.m. to include ten-hour days and continued six days a week, until he retired at the age of 88 due to his declining health with Alzheimer’s. Bill did not want to retire. He fought a hard fight, but finally lost his battle to Alzheimer’s.
One of the many things Bill loved was his family and all sports. Bill played basketball in high school, which may have led to his love for the San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed going to the Spur’s games with his son, Dr. Mike Majors, and grandsons Hunter and Parker. Bill was a proud season ticket holder for 31 years and loved the Dallas Cowboys as well.
Chief Master Sergeant Bill H. Majors is survived by his lovely wife of 70 years, Lucy Majors; his children, Dr. Michael Majors and his wife, Becky; his daughters, Susan Majors and Beverly Donathen and her husband, Bob. Grandchildren, Ryan Gothard, Hunter Donathen, Preston Majors, Parker Donathen, Erick Boan, Troy Gothard and Dena Saunders. He is also survived by seven nephews and two nieces.
A service honoring the life of Chief Master Sergeant Bill H. Majors will be held at St. Mathew Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Tx 78230 on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
