On November 30, 2017 Bernetta Jean Murphy Clay of San Antonio, Texas went home to be with the Lord after battling cancer for over a year and a half. Jean was born on December 16, 1952 in Savannah, Tennessee to Morris “Boss” and Bernice (Prince) Murphy. She graduated from Central High in 1971 and on December 7, 1974 she married the love of her life, Barney Russell Clay at Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Tennessee. Jean worked for Randolph Independent School District from 1987-2010. She enjoyed working as a librarian, computer teacher and special needs program aid over the course of 23 wonderful years.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Morris “Boss” and Bernice Murphy and brother Larry Murphy. Jean is survived by her husband Barney Clay of 43 years, daughter Marisa (John Zulauf) Clay, daughter Brandi (Gabriel Franco) Clay, granddaughter Tessa Franco, granddaughter Emmarie Zulauf, brother Michael Murphy, sister Marsetta Jerrolds, sister Melinda Richards, several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Jean took great pride in being a devoted Air Force wife, mother, grandmother and in being a Randolph Ro-hawk. She had a big heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. She loved music, gardening and all outdoor activities from sports to adventures.
