Barbara Ann Becker, 79, of San Antonio transitioned into the next dimension on August 18, 2024. Barbara was born on November 17, 1944 in LaPorte, Indiana. She grew up and graduated high school in Walkerton, Indiana. She graduated from Radiologic Technologist School in Elkhart, Indiana in 1962. Her first job as an x-ray tech was in LaPorte, Indiana. Subsequently she worked in Fort Wayne, Indiana and then St. Petersburg, Florida. She later moved to Atlanta and continued her education receiving a BMS in Allied Health at Emory University in 1980 which allowed her to advance her career from x-ray tech to department head of Radiology. During the remainder of Barb’s career, she worked in Knoxville, Tn., Atlanta, Ga., Albuquerque, NM, San Antonio and Anson, TX.
People who worked with Barb described her as an excellent boss, a great leader, passionate and supportive. They also said she was motivating, approachable, accomplished, fair and caring. She was depicted also as
an experienced team player, bringing enthusiasm and energy into group efforts.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Irene Lidy, her younger sister, Kathy, life partner Clara Stokes who passed away in 1997 and life partner Nancy Campbell who died in 2011. A forever friend, Anne Lutz, preceded her in death in February 2024. She is survived by her wife Gayle Hart along with forever friend Liz Owens and many other friends she met along the way.
Barbara was an avid photographer. She loved nature, birds, flowers, the Southwest United States, jewelry, animals and traveling to multiple states and countries. She was especially fond of Yellowstone National Park where she was known to exit the vehicle to get a picture of a grizzly bear or bison much to the horror of her traveling companions.
Barbara could be goofy and childlike which delighted children and she loved entertaining them. She had a huge contagious laugh that often involved a few snorts thrown in that turned more than a few heads. Sadly (for us) she has now reached her final destination where we know she is laughing out loud.
Memorial service will be held at Royal Inn Oriental Cuisine located at 5440 Babcock Rd., San Antonio, Tx. 78240. It will be on September 14, 2024 from 3-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mills County Pet Program, P.O. Box 247, Goldthwaite, TX. 76844.
