A few days before his passing, Aubrey Dale Sapp, age 68, was crafting blues lyrics with the nurse practitioner. The song was a whimsical tale about needing shoes to get into heaven. He made people laugh and touched their souls until the very end.
On March 16, 2024, having been baptized in his hospital bed, Dale departed this earthly realm, leaving behind his cancer-ravaged body to go with Jesus.
Dale was born in Savannah, Georgia, on December 18, 1955, but grew up in San Antonio, Texas. At 17, he joined the Navy and moved to San Diego for a four-year adventure—growing up and traveling the world.
Under the mentorship of his first wife's uncle, Dale learned integrity, compassion, and honed his construction trade skills, embodying the essence of a true craftsman. Whether wielding a paintbrush or working with his hands, he took immense pride in his craftsmanship, finding deep fulfillment in the completion of each project and the satisfaction of his clientele, many of whom became cherished members of his extended family.
Later in life he was a shuttle bus driver for people living with disabilities. He was touched by his clientele and their perseverance and joy for life in spite of the challenges they faced every day. He was humbled to serve them and was often thanked by his clients for the respect and courtesy he showed.
Yet, beyond his professional endeavors, Dale's heart was filled with a profound empathy for the underdog, and the rare ability to love unconditionally.
