Art was born in Mt. Pleasant, to Russell and Eleanor (Breuer) Rawlings. He graduated from MPHS in 1972. He graduated from ISU in 1977 with a degree in Industrial Education.
He married Becki Dimas Kalt on May 1, 1980. They had no children but he adored his many nieces and nephews, and they adored him.
Art was known as “Tuffy”, growing up, but he was the kindest man you ever met.
He was employed 40 years by Fire Prevention and Engineering Bureau of Texas, later bought out by Verisk Insurance ISO Services, where he inspected nd determined the fire ratings of cities.
Art spent his spare time working on his 1969 Firebird convertible, and entering it in car shows, barbecuing, golfing, and at the Beach. He and Becki never met a stranger.
His favorite time of year was going home in September to spend the week of Old Threshers, and in November , when Family would join him and Becki, in New Braunfels, Texas for “Wurstfest”.
He is survived by his wife, seven sisters and 2 brothers, Becky (Dale) Calhoun, Bobbi (Dan) Bruggemeyer, Tink (John) Parrott, of Mt. Pleasant, Scotti (Jeff) Nesbitt, of Burlington, NC, his twin sister, Dell (Ken) Madole of North Liberty, IA, Rosie Dopler, Mike Askew, Gil (Connie) Rheinschmidt, Lee (Marthe) Rheinschmidt, all of Burlington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and one brother.
A “Celebration of his Life” will be held at a later date. We ask in lieu of flowers to please donate to Pet’s Alive (he loved his cats), Wounded Warriors or a Charity of your choice.
