

Alan D. Holmes of San Antonio, Texas passed away on October 25, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on August 17, 1937, at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi Texas to Hazel Wilder Holmes and Kenneth Boyce Holmes Sr. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Kenneth Boyce Holmes Jr. and spouse Dorthy Holmes, his sisters Inga Marie Carlson and Shirley Pullen, and his nephew Mike Holmes.
Alan is survived by his four children Brad B. Holmes, Brenda J. Holmes, Richard A. Holmes, and Mathew B. Holmes and also his three grandchildren Joshua Peters, Lacey Adams and spouse Billy Adams, Danielle Langston and spouse Ethan Langston, and great-granddaughter Oakley Langston. Alan is also survived by his two former wives June Harris Holmes Koch and Barbara Incardona Holmes Damron, by his beloved partner Julliana Howard, and niece Carolyn Holmes . Of note is the remarkable closeness this entire extended family experienced over many decades, including many happy gatherings together.
Alan graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi in 1955 then attended Abilene Christian College and received a bachelor’s degree in religion in 1959. He attended Trinity University receiving a master’s degree in Hospital Administration in 1967.
Alan had a long and distinguished career as a hospital administrator having managed hospitals in Everett WA., Uvalde Tx, San Antonio TX, and Pearsall TX. He was respected and admired by staff and board members alike. Alan was active with the Texas Rural Health Hospital Association, the Texas Hospital Association, and various churches.
Alan loved to garden, snow ski, and play tennis, was a voracious reader, an avid swimmer, and an accomplished certified scuba diver.
Everyone who knew Alan will miss his presence. He leaves a special place in the hearts of all of those who were honored to call him colleague, friend, and family.
The family would like to thank Methodist Hospital and Estates of Shavano for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Family and friends will be invited to attend a life celebration. Date and location yet to be determined.
