Vern was born on Christmas Day in 1956 to Byron and Darlene Jensen in Provo, Utah. He worked hard from a very young age, beginning with selling cards and ribbons out of a wagon at the age of five. After graduating from Orem High School, Vern's professional career included work for EDO Corporation, GE OEC Medical Systems, and Mako Surgical. His innovative work in medical imaging resulted in multiple patent grants bearing his name. When cone dystrophy took Vern's sight and forced him into an early retirement, he became involved with the National Federation of the Blind, where he taught other blind people to use assistive technology, and served as Vice President of the Southern Utah chapter.
Vernon loved fishing and riding ATVs with loved ones. Everywhere he lived, he relentlessly made improvements to home, yard, and garden. He was also a talented artist, even producing many beautiful pieces of woodwork after he was legally blind. But his greatest pride and joy was in his children and grandchildren.
Vern leaves behind his four cherished children: James from his first marriage to Doreen Armstrong; and Tia, Katie, and Megan from his second marriage to KayLynn Snow. He also leaves his father, his sister Jan Budge, and his brothers Darrel, Mark, Robert, and Carl; as well as his seven beloved grandchildren.
Vernon's legacy of hard work, innovation, and deep love for family will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held for friends and family at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 6550 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129.
