Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Richard was an accomplished Certified Public Accountant, educator, businessman, and devoted father and husband.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and later completed his master’s degree in Texas. Throughout his career, he worked for KPMG and held professional positions in California, Texas, and Utah before becoming Chief Financial Officer of EBR Management.
Richard took great pride in his work and loved discussing business, accounting, real estate, and finance with anyone willing to learn. He taught accounting at both Weber State University and in the Master of Accounting program at the University of Utah, finding great satisfaction in helping others develop their skills and confidence. He was especially proud of the work he did alongside his wife, Jeanne, helping operate the Great American Scrapbook Conventions, Scrapbook Retailer Magazine, and Memory Makers, which brought creativity, education, and community to people throughout the United States.
Above all else, Richard was devoted to his family. For the last ten years of Jeanne’s battle with dementia, he selflessly dedicated his life to her care. He invested his time, energy, and resources to ensure she remained at home, surrounded by love and dignity. His commitment to her was unwavering. After losing the love of his life, Richard followed her only a week later.
Richard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and carried a deep respect for God throughout his life.
He was a builder and problem-solver by nature. As a young man he enjoyed building rockets, and throughout his life he loved repairing, renovating, and improving homes and properties. He worked on structures and renovation projects in British Columbia, California, and Utah and rarely encountered a problem he wasn’t willing to tackle himself. Whether it involved construction, maintenance, accounting, or business, Richard took pride in understanding how things worked and making them better.
Those who knew Richard remember his generosity, patience, and willingness to listen. He believed in encouraging others to pursue their ambitions and was always willing to offer support, guidance, or practical advice. Whether discussing business, helping with a project, or simply lending an ear, he made people feel heard and valued.
To his son, Richard was a constant source of wisdom, support, and encouragement. He was always willing to answer a phone call, discuss new ideas, offer guidance through life’s challenges, or help solve a problem. His example of hard work, loyalty, faith, and devotion to family will remain a lasting influence for generations to come.
Richard is survived by his son, Jackson Reed. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne Wines Reed.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his service, kindness, faith, and steadfast devotion to his family.
