Randy was born on June 9th, 1964, to the late Gerald and Margaret Phillips in Olathe, Kansas. He lived in Kansas, Minnesota, California, Missouri, Louisianna, New York, Colorado, the Republic of Korea, and ultimately Salt Lake City, Utah, which he called home since 1995.
Randy served his country in the U.S. Army as an Audio-Visual Documentation Systems Specialist, Multichannel Communications Systems Operator, and Supply Specialist, then made a career supporting multiple electrical and audio-visual systems. He most recently worked as an Audio-Visual Technician for the Snowbird Mountain Resort for nearly 30 years. He attended Heston College in Heston, Kansas, where he earned a Liberal Arts associate’s degree focusing on Business Data Processing and Computer Electronics.
Randy’s vibrant and outgoing personality became a beacon to his community, including his neighbors and co-workers. He never met a stranger, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He embraced the hospitality spirit working at the popular mountain resort, gregariously engaging guests while dressed as Santa Claus during the Christmas season and in lederhosen during the annual Oktoberfest celebration. Even outside of seasonal celebrations, Randy’s indiscriminate hospitality became so well known throughout the resort that even visitors noticed his occasional absence and asked about him. He is known among his coworkers for his personal connections, caring for and welcoming all. He is also known for exploring the mountain and finding and photographing spectacular remote vistas.
Randy is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret, and his father, Gerald. He is survived by his stepmother, Roylene; his brothers: Michael (Angela) and Kenneth (Cynthia); and his stepsisters: Tammy (Frank Gunnink), Debbie (Guy Motes), and Jody Baker.
