Norman “Normie” Omer Lavigne was born November 28th 1932 in Lowell, Massachusetts and entered into rest March 27th 2025 in Hurricane, Utah at the age of 92. He is predeceased by his father Maurice, his mother Delia and brothers Robert & Richard. Norm is survived by his children Michelle, Jennifer and Layne; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
At Hampton Academy and High School in New Hampshire, Norm excelled at most sports, lettering in baseball, basketball and track and field. His favorite saying was “Step on it!” He also worked at the family’s “Sugar and Spice Bakery”, baking all kinds of tasty French pastries and baked goods.
Following high school, Norm joined the U.S. Navy at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. He served as an EN3 engineman on the USS Sea Robin submarine during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He shared fond memories of his submarine service with anyone willing to listen. Up until the day of his passing, Norm wore his USS Sea Robin jacket, ring and belt buckle. Thank you for your service, Norm. As submariners say when one of their own passes, “Rest your oar, Sailor”.
Norm married Marguerite Rollins and daughters Michelle and Jennifer were born in 1952 and 1953. The family headed out west in 1957 and settled in the San Fernando Valley. Layne was born in 1960.
Norm enjoyed training the family’s two black Labradors and participating in Southern California field trials. To this day, all remaining family members are big dog lovers.
Norm put his engineering skills to use working as a tune-up mechanic at two Cadillac dealerships for many years. He often worked on movie stars Cadillacs, such as Barbara Eden and Sophia Loren. And boy, did we ever hear about that! Norm owned numerous prized vehicles and always kept them running in tip-top shape.
Following a divorce, Norm remarried to Dahlia Vela in 1977. They remained married until her passing in 2016.
Norm will sadly be missed by many.
A graveside ceremony will take place on May 24th 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at the High Street Cemetery, 140 High Street, Hampton, NH 03842.
