the privilege of knowing her. Noma passed away on January 3, 2025, at
the age of 90. Born on December 9, 1934, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, she
leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and love that will resonate
for generations.
Noma was the proud mother of four children—Dwight Ward, Debra Freeman,
Judi Ferguson, and Robert Ward, Jr.—and the loving grandmother to 7
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Her family was the
cornerstone of her life, and she devoted herself wholeheartedly to
them, teaching the values of love, faith, and perseverance.
As a young woman, Noma played the organ at her church, a role that
reflected her devotion to her faith and her love of music. A devout
Christian, she built her life on the foundation of unshakable faith,
embodying the message of the Good Shepherd by loving unconditionally
and guiding others with patience and grace. Her belief in the Lord was
the compass that guided her every step.
Noma worked at the California Department of Motor Vehicles for 20
years, demonstrating the strong work ethic she carried throughout her
life. She was also a talented artist, creating beautiful stained-glass
pieces that reflected her creativity and care. In her later years, she
found joy in reading and listening to books, as well as cherishing
time spent with her grandchildren. Her home was always a place of
warmth and welcome, where the smell of Swedish tea log on Christmas
mornings evoked cherished memories for all who gathered there.
Noma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Ward, Sr.,
and her daughter, Judi Ferguson. Despite the hardships she faced,
including the loss of loved ones, Noma exhibited unwavering strength
and resilience. Her grace in adversity and her ability to persevere
became an inspiration to all who knew her.
Noma will be remembered for her faith, her creativity, and her
boundless love. She taught us all the value of persistence and the
power of hope. As we reflect on her life, we find comfort in the words
of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.””
