Karen Louise Younggren was born on September 10, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was raised in Utah and graduated from Davis High School. She was born to John Baker and Louise Stayner, and was lovingly raised and sealed to John and Clara Baker, who were her parents in every way that mattered. She grew up in the Baker family home in Layton alongside her siblings: Stan Baker (d. 2023), Judy Armstrong, Kenton Baker (d. 2017) , Wayne Baker (d. 2020), Calvin Baker, Markaye Moss, and Matthew Baker.
Throughout her life she experienced many chapters of love and family. She was married to Ronald G. McMillan, Arthur Riley, Harold Stall, and Melvin Younggren. From these relationships she was blessed with three daughters: Rhonda G. McMillan, Julie A. Scott, and Michelle R. Gorman. We take comfort in knowing she has joined her beloved daughter, Rhonda who passed in 2009. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She spent much of her adult life in Northern California forming lasting friendships through work and social clubs, and created a life full of color and personality. Later, she spent many cherished years living part-time in Mazatlán, Mexico, a place that reflected her love of the beach. In 2011, she retired to St. George, Utah. There, she was blessed with beautiful and family-like friendships with her Morningside 2nd Ward and Heritage Lane neighbors.
She was a woman of style, creativity, and unmistakable charm. She had an artistic eye and a gift for turning thrifted and simple items into beautiful home décor and one of a kind creations. She was a collector at heart and especially loved mermaids, bees, and all things beachy. She was also known for her elaborate jewelry collections and for wearing them boldly and beautifully, always in a way that felt completely her.
She had a great smile, a contagious laugh, and a funny, quick wit that made her entertaining to be around. She could be charming, expressive, and full of life, and she made a lasting impression on people wherever she went. She leaves behind a legacy of memories, stories, laughter, style, and resilience that will not be forgotten.
Memorial Services will be held March 28, 2026.
