Jack C. Mitchell Jack Calvin Mitchell first saw the light of day on November 26th, 1924 in LaPorte, Indiana. His parents were Shirley Sherwood Mitchell and Bertha Pankowski/Mitchell. He worked very hard earning family money even as a very young man. Jack attended LaPorte High School, graduating in April 1943, upon which he right away began service in the Air Force, where he served stateside until February 1946 as a Military Policeman. Jack started college in fall 1946, finishing an undergrad degree in art and education in fall 1949. He followed with grad school work in these same areas in 1950-51, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in 1956. The drawings, paintings, photos and woodwork by Jack are very highly regarded and still enjoyed today. The early 1950’s found Jack teaching elementary level for the Denver Public Schools. After a successful career in teaching and administrating there, he retired in 1979. Sears was also lucky enough to have Jack work for them part-time for many years, mostly in their credit department. On the home front, Jack married a young lady he worked with at school, Barbara June Favus, in 1955. They produced a son, Mark, writer of this obit. The Denver, Colorado area was Jack’s home through the 1970’s. He met and subsequently married his second wife, Dimetra (Dee) Weir, in the late 1970s. They moved to Midvale, Utah from Lakewood, Colorado in 1980 and Dee still resides there. Jack passed away on January 10th, 2017. Upon his request, no service will be held. Photography, family, basketball, football, woodworking, the stock market, travelling, home improvement and astronomy were some of Jack’s pursuits in retirement. He is lovingly regarded by all who have known him as a fine gentleman shoes life truly made a positive difference. Rest in peace, Jack.
