Doris Marie Leu

"Marie," as she was known, was born on July 20,1932 in Kankakee, Illinois to Richard Arnold McDuffee and Ruby Irene Wesley. She was their only child but her mother made sure she had plenty of "sisters" by being her girl scout leader for several years. She moved several times, around Illinois, South Dakota, and Nebraska, wherever her father's job took them. Marie graduated from Norfolk High school and went on to college in Nebraska and Iowa. She earned her elementary education degree and taught kindergarten for many years. She LOVED singing and performed in many choirs and quartets. She married her high school sweetheart, Vernon D Leu, on December 28, 1952. He had been in the Navy but as soon as his enlisted time was up, he married Marie. He was hired as a telegraph operator (same as in the Navy) with Union Pacific Railroad. The railroad immediately moved them to Las Vegas, where she lived until June 2026. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in numerous callings: Primary, Relief Society, Young Women's, Cub Scouts, the temple, and her favorite was being a proselyting missionary with her husband to the people in Hawaii.

Her husband passed away in 2021. She sadly had become afflicted with dementia and could not live alone. Her grandson joined the Air Force, bought her house, and he and his wife had "Grandma" stay with them in the house she was familiar with, until he was transferred. She then went to live with her oldest daughter, Debbie, in Utah.

She was preceded in death by her three sons, Michael, Kevin, and Jaymes, and her wonderful husband, Vernon. She is extremely happy to be united with her "Four Musketeers" again. Survivors include daughters, Debra Malone, and Cindee Taylor; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 8525 N. Thom Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131. Interment will be at the Boulder City Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
