Suzanne M Woods

Suzanne (Sue) grew up in Northbrook, IL, the only child of Dorothy (Hillier) and Raymond F. Melzer.

Sue went to National College of Education and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She completed her master’s degree in education in 1987. She taught 2nd grade at Seth Paine school in Lake Zurich for most of her career where she dearly loved teaching children how to read.

She met the love of her life, James H. (Jim) Woods, at Melzer’s Fine Foods, the grocery store owned by her parents and their family, where Jim worked at the time. They were married in 1957. He predeceased her in 2012.

She was the kind, patient, and devoted mother of three children, Lynn (Bob) Allen, Mary (Bill) Hood, and Michael Woods. She was the proud grandmother of Meghan, James, and Timothy Allen, Jeffrey Woods, and Joshua and Matthew Hood.

Sue spent most of her married life and raised her children on “The Farm”, a 15-acre horse farm in North Barrington, where she tended her gardens and read in the summer, and let her children keep a menagerie, including horses, ponies, a donkey, dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, frogs, turtles, salamanders, and fish. Sue also loved to knit and cross stitch, and her house was filled with her beautiful needlework. She is greatly missed but is now at peace with Dad.
