Ruth Mimler, 87, loving mother of four passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026. Ruth was born in Rűti bei Riggisberg in Switzerland on October 22, 1938, to Hans and Emma Roth. The oldest of four children, the Alps were her playground.
Her beautiful journey with her husband, Walter, began at a dance in Switzerland, where they fell in love and were wed on November 28, 1959. Soon after, they ventured to the United States on work visas. Blessed with four children, they ultimately settled in Chicago to build a life rich in love and adventure. Together, the family made lasting memories camping in Wisconsin during the summers, riding bikes to Lake Michigan, and spending weekends exploring their favorite German shops in Lincoln Square. Becoming U.S. citizens in 1985 was a moment of profound pride for her and her family.
She was a woman of boundless creativity. While she loved gardening, crocheting, and painting, her lifelong devotion to knitting stayed with her until the end. She also filled the world with music and culture—playing the flute in her younger years, sharing her talent for yodeling, and speaking four languages fluently.
For more than two decades, she worked at Donald Bruce and Company, making cherished friendships that lasted a lifetime.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra (Paul) and Lisa (Joe), who remained actively by her side for the past three years, and provided physical care at the end ensuring her days were filled with comfort and love.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to especially recognize grandchildren Olivia, Eddie, wife Haley (sons Ryder and Ronan), Lauren and her partner Devin, Jordan, wife Katie (daughter Everly and son Wilder), Anthony and Joseph whose tender presence, shared stories, and constant care provided her immense solace during her final two months at home.
She is additionally survived by her sons, Tony and Roy as well as her sister, Susanna, and brother Eduard.
Her family will hold a private celebration of remembrance to honor her life and legacy.
Ruth was an eternally optimistic woman and loved by many. Those wishing to honor her memory are invited to make a donation to Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation at eisenbergfoundation.org
