Rose Anna Felde (née Goldstrom), age 92, endearingly called Nana/Grandma by her children and grandchildren, and Tootie (or Aunt Tootie) by childhood friends and family, departed her loving family on April 8, 2023.
Rose was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 8, 1931, to the late Simon and Alma Goldstrom. She and her husband of sixty years, John (Pop-Pop/Grandpa) dedicated their lives to raising their children with love and devotion. She cherished being a nana/grandmother and adored her grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her two sisters (and their spouses) Charlotte (Walter Schoenbeck) and Lorraine (Charles Felde); her Godson and nephew, Robert Schoenbeck; her nephew Timothy Schoenbeck; and her extended family John, Hulda, and Lynn Baumhardt. She is survived by her husband, John; her four children and their spouses: Rick (Shera), Robyn (Dan Mazzolini), Kevin (Joanne), and Kimberly (John Galloway); her seven grandchildren: Abby, Grace, Ashton, Hannah, Samantha, Kellsey, and Kimber; and her nieces and nephews: Nora, Karla, Kurt, John, and Tom.
Rose was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind a wealth of beautiful memories. She relished every moment with her grandchildren, and she and John especially enjoyed teaching and playing games with family like Bingo, Yahtzee, Play Nine, and Rummikub. Both John and Rose fully supported their kids and grandkids in any activity they chose to pursue, whether it be academic, social or sports, and they rarely missed an event in which their children participated. They also made it possible for all four of their children to attend and graduate from college.
Rose showed unconditional love and never ending kindness to her entire family, including daughters-and-sons-in-law; in fact, Joanne in particular very fondly remembers Nana telling her that she considered her a daughter rather than a daughter-in-law.
As her health declined, she still adored any time spent with family. She frequently would start a conversation by saying, “It’s so wonderful to hear your voice.” When responding to family telling her they would see or talk with her tomorrow, Rose would often joke “Be the good Lord willing, and the creek don’t rise.” One of her favorite sign-off expressions after a phone call or FaceTime call was, “Pleasant dreams and God bless.”
The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Rose during her last days, specifically Peace Three Oaks Hospice and the amazing hospice nurses Ena and Yvonne, as well as Sabrina, her fantastic hospice nurse’s aide. Additionally, we are grateful for her caregivers on the memory unit at Bethesda Senior Care, in Chicago, Illinois, especially Rhonda, Harold, and Luz.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
