Robert “Bob” Beck Sr., 70, of Chicago, passed away with family at his side Saturday, April 7, 2018. He was born September 1, 1947 in Chicago, IL. Son of Ralph and Lois Beck and grandson of Lillian Crandall, he married Louise Beck nee Tipre July 19, 1969.
Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Louise; his children, Robert “Bob” Jr. ( Jen), Eric (Karen), and Dan (Margaret); his 8 grandchildren, Zack, Asia, Brendan, Emilee, Taylor, Joey, Elyse, and Kiera; and many friends and loved ones.
Bob enjoyed many things in life that included watching his grandchildren participate in school events, swimming in pools on a hot afternoon, hanging out with lifelong friends and spending quality time on any front porch he could find. He spent a good portion of his life watching people go by and being a piece of the passersby life, no matter how short. He was a printer by trade and for the majority of his life his fingers were stained with the ink from the presses he ran. When it came time to pick a screen name for his email, “dirtyhands” seemed to fit him perfectly. However, it raised some eyebrows in other circles. He loved to laugh and was a focal point in many of the best stories of his family. Not easy to love, but even up to his last days he spent making the nurses laugh and the legend of Bob Beck continues to live on forever.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N Knox Ave., Chicago, IL 60630 from 6:00-9:00 pm.
