Louise "Leppy" Evans Spears, 83, of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, after a brief illness. Born on November 14, 1941, in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of Josiah and Louise Evans.
Leppy was the loving wife for 61 years to Robert “Bob” Spears; and a cherished mother to Katherine “Keitt” (Dave) Mobile, Evans (Karen) Spears, and John (Brian Dimit) Spears. She was also a proud grandmother to Kyle (Jenna) Mobile, Caleb (Laurie) Mobile, and Christine Spears; and the devoted sister-in-law of Katherine “Kathy” Spears-Bradford.
In the 1970’s, Leppy embraced adventure by moving with Bob and their family to Sligo, Ireland. There, she brought her Southern charm and hospitality to the local community. A dedicated educator, she taught for many years in both South Carolina and Illinois, leaving a lasting impact on her students.
Leppy found immense joy in following her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and musical pursuits and expressed her creativity through quilting and needlework. She was deeply committed to volunteering. She spent countless hours volunteering at The Harbor recovery home in Waukegan, cooking meals for the residents, and raising money for their programs. Leppy was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Libertyville for almost 50 years.
Later in life, Leppy and Bob became among the first residents of Green Oaks Senior Living in Libertyville. She remained an engaged member of the community there, making many dear and long lasting friends. At Green Oaks she was an avid card player, enjoying many games of Hand and Foot. She also was an integral part in the creation of the Resident’s Council and served as their first president.
Leppy had an incredible gift of loving people who were going through hard times. When most people would walk away and give up, Leppy excelled at loving people who were in trouble.
Leppy’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to her family and friends.
