After graduating from high school, June enlisted in the U.S. Army Women's Corps and proudly served her country for 2 years. After working several years in the insurance business, she went on to a very successful career in the plastics industry at ALPAC as a salesperson who was never deterred by the word "No."
A brief early marriage produced her only son, James “Jimmy”. In the 1970's she met her soulmate and future husband, Oke Fredlund, a tough Chicagoan and an even tougher iron worker, who adopted Jimmy. June and Oke went on to share over 40 years of fun together, beginning in Rogers Park where they founded the Fargo Beach Yacht Club (some of us still have the tee shirt) before moving to a Kilbourn Avenue bungalow in Albany Park during the early 1980's.
June had a full social life and was active in her community. For many years she was a volunteer at the Salvation Army running fundraising programs, was a member of the Morton Grove Moose Lodge, the Morton Grove Garden Club, and intricately involved with the Women's Guilds of the Catholic Church Parishes of Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity and previously, before consolidation, Saint Cornelius. She bowled and played poker all her life, managing to do both the week she died. June's personality had to be experienced to be appreciated, and she was loved by all who knew her.
June is survived by her son, James Fredlund of Olney, Maryland; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Rolwing of Evans, Georgia; a brother Charles Adams of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; her extended family of Mark and Helene Grant; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved 90 year old husband, Oke, in 2012.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 from 9:00 am until time of funeral mass 10:00 am at Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Catholic Church, 6020 W Ardmore, Chicago, IL 60646. Interment will be private.
