Joan G Auer

Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank J. Auer, her parents George and Grace Godfrey, and her brother Tom Godfrey. She is survived by her children David F. Auer of Chicago and Catherine (Michael) M. Gunterman of Mt. Prospect, her brother John (Mary) Godfrey, her grandchildren Paul (Kristy) M. Gunterman and Erik Gunterman, her great granddaughter Shay, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Joan was born on July 24, 1929 in Kirkwood, Missouri to George and Grace Godfrey and is the oldest sister to Tom Godfrey (deceased) and John Godfrey. Joan graduated from Loretta Academy in St. Louis. Joan and Frank met through family members. Frank would drive from Chicago on Fridays and stay until Sunday, visiting Joan in St. Louis. They married June 30, 1951 at Ascension Church in Chesterfield, Missouri. The wedding was officiated by Joan’s uncle, Fr. John Godfrey. Joan and Frank moved to Chicago and purchased their first home in 1954. In 1959, through Catholic Charities, they adopted their son David. In 1964 they adopted their daughter Catherine, again through Catholic Charities. Frank passed September 21, 2014.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday May 6, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Emily Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Cemetery immediately following at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
