Jeffrey C. Sweet, 65, of Arlington Heights, died Monday, January 24, 2022, at HarborChase of Long Grove, after a long battle with dementia. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife Roberta, his sons Daniel and Trevor, and his sister Debra. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Charlie Sweet.
Jeff was born May 15, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin, a 1974 graduate of West High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. A Delta Airlines flight attendant for 37 years, he loved flying internationally. He was passionate about cycling, gardening, photography, birding, hosting garage sales, and anything outdoors. He collected friends and could greet you in many languages.
A modern-day Tom Sawyer, he engaged family and friends in his creative ideas including a backyard ice rink, transporting an intact jungle gym down the street on wagons, dragging large volcanic rocks behind his car to make a Zen Garden, and growing 2000 tomato plants for his sons to sell. He’d never had a pet growing up but faithfully tended to his wife’s cats and loved the family dog, Wrigley. His heart belonged to Door County which he visited for fifty years, biking, skiing and finding new bakeries.
Jeff loved being the unofficial photographer of his sons’ sporting activities and important life events. He was a lifelong fan of UW Badger football, the Madison Scouts Drum Corps, Chicago Cubs, and Da Bears.
Celebrations of Life will be held at a future date in Arlington Heights and Madison, WI. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a wildlife charity of your choice.
