The second of seven sons born to Einar & Ursula Edfors, he grew up in Northwest Chicago and graduated from St. George High School in 1955. He attended Marquette University for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Army, starting a 30-year career of military service, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy (Reserve).
He was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #73, and worked that trade for nearly 40 years.
He lent his fine tenor voice to the Chicago Swedish Glee Club for decades, serving as that group’s Treasurer for several years. He was also an active Board member of the Northeastern Illinois Norwegian Elkhound Association, sharing his love for that dog breed.
He was an avid golfer and a skilled mixer of Swedish glügg. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Lois, son James (Golden, CO), and daughter Catherine (St. Joseph, MO).
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church; 601 Biesterfield Rd.; Elk Grove Village, IL 60007. His cremated remains will be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy (Pacific Fleet).
