Born on March 24, 1923, in Niles, Illinois, Helen lived an extraordinary life that spanned over a century. She was the beloved daughter of Phillip and Helen Rosencrans (née Knabe) and grew up in Niles Center Village, the only girl in a lively household of six children.
Helen married Edward Davison in 1945 and together they lovingly raised their two sons, Edward and Larry. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, cousin, aunt, and friend, Helen’s warmth and presence were cherished by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Helen; her husband, Edward; her sons, Edward and Larry; and her brothers, Carl, Philip, Roger, and Sylvester (“Babe”) Rosencrans. She is survived by her brother, August Rosencrans; her “bonus” son, Alan Cervenka; her goddaughter, Tracey Vega; her loving caregivers, Anne Grazier and Rosa Nabor; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Helen was known for her strength, generosity, boundless energy, and quick wit. As the only daughter, she naturally stepped into the role of matriarch and family historian following the passing of her mother. She and Ed were the heart of many warm, joyful Christmas Day gatherings, opening their home on Pittsburgh Street in Chicago to family and friends alike.
A lifelong social butterfly, Helen had a passion for staying active and on the go. She especially loved visiting Las Vegas and even called it home for nearly two decades. Her love for animals was lifelong as well—her beloved cats, Sunshine and later Sheldon, brought her immense comfort and happiness in her later years.
Helen's long life was a shining example of resilience, vitality, and a youthful spirit that never waned.
Per Helen’s wishes, her loved ones will gather for a simple celebration of her life rather than a traditional wake or funeral. A memorial gathering will be planned for this summer, with details to be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s name may be made to Save-A-Pet.
