Evelyn Hartman beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Evelyn was born on September 29, 1940 in Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom to George and Dorothy Wood. She was an adventurous traveler, having gone two-thirds of the way around the world in her lifetime. She was always planning, saving, and actually going on her next trip. Whether to a nearby park or lake or taking her three kids to meet relatives in England and returning via cruise ship through the Panama Canal.
Evelyn’s greatest joy was her family. Whatever sport her kids were into she had interest. From watching them play soccer to basketball or taking an interest in football to the point she knew NFL players better than her son.
She always provided a sanctuary for her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to support and encourage them through downs in life and to celebrate the positives. Family was always welcome at Evelyn’s home and kids and grandkids all spent tons of time there. Perhaps it was in no small part due to Evelyn’s wonderful baking and willingness to take interest and give love and hugs to everyone.
Evelyn would do anything for her kids, no matter how tough, to include sleeping on the kitchen floor one night to try to capture her son’s pet hamster that had gone under the kitchen cabinets. She caught it before he woke up the next morning, only for the hamster to escape and go back under the cabinets the next night!
Evelyn always had unwavering faith in her children to include being convinced by her 16-year-old son that he had the aptitude to change the clutch in her car and later coming home to find pieces of the car strewn throughout the garage! In the end it all came together and worked perfectly.
Years later she accompanied her son flying in his small plane, without hesitation, when he received his private pilot’s license.
Evelyn is survived by Lynn (Mark) Barten, Eric (Kathryn) Hartman and Matthew Hartman. She has three wonderful grandchildren, Tara, Jaime, and Branden. She also has five great-grandchildren: Athena, Astraea, Genevieve, Garrett, and Avery.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her father George (1986), mother Dorothy (1987), and sister Margaret (2007).
Evelyn will be cremated and her ashes scattered in the ocean to continue her travels and … eventually her circumnavigation of the world. Remembrance to be held privately.
Though Evelyn may no longer be with us in person, may she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be forever remembered for the joy and happiness she brought her family.
