Elli Taylor (nee Hintz), of Arlington Heights, passed away at sunset on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the age of 82. She was born in Germany in 1941 and grew up in the town of Wasbek. At age 10, her family immigrated to the US, where they eventually settled into the Schaumburg area. Elli was proud of her German Lutheran roots (and her attendance in the ‘little red schoolhouse’ at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg). Her faith in God always kept her going.
Elli held various jobs, but her longest dedication was at Motorola, where she eventually retired after over 30 years of service. Elli had such a wonderful zest for life and a smile for everyone. She enjoyed plants and gardening, long drives to new places, fun social events, music and dancing (when she was able), and crocheting beautiful scarves for all her friends and acquaintances. She especially loved spending time with her much-adored grandkids.
Elli courageously fought very long battles with several cancers until the end. She passed away quietly in her home surrounded by her daughter Teresa “Terri” Gauna (nee Taylor), son-in-law Kevin Gauna, and grandchildren Kailyn and Max. Her loving pets Misty and Charlie were also continuously by her side. Elli was preceded in death by her mother Emma (in Germany), her father Hugo Hintz, and her former husband Wayne Taylor. She will be sorely missed by many.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 202 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg on Saturday morning, October 28, 2023, at 10:00 am, followed by a Service at 11:00 am. A Remembrance Reception at 11:30 am will follow thereafter in the church Fellowship Room.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider planting a tree in her name, or memorial contributions would be appreciated to ASPCA or American Red Cross. Elli loved helping animals and people so these charitable honorariums on her behalf are appreciated.
