Doug Torvik was born on December 8, 1932 in Minnetonka, Minnesota and passed away in Woodstock, Illinois on June 1, 2023 after a short illness.
Doug married Scharleen Logan (nee Hess) in 1963 with whom he had son Scott and twin daughters Julie and Alison. He also adopted Scharleen’s son Rick from her first marriage. He was briefly married to Judy McClaren in the 1980s before meeting Sharon Snyder, whom he married in 1992.
Doug served in in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict at Edwards Air Force Base as a trumpeter. While there, he won runner-up at a Mr. San Diego body building competition. Doug was musically talented but sought a steadier profession to raise a family. He built a career selling musical instruments throughout the Midwest.
His relationship with God was fostered through a twelve-step program that comforted and nourished him for some 45 years. He was active in the Crystal Lake branch of the Willow Creek Community Church. He was always willing to share his advice on any issue and encouraged those around him to succeed.
The lifelong Midwesterner was planning a motorcycle trip with brother Perry in the fall of 2013, but the trip ended before it began when Doug was struck by a car on his way home from the motorcycle shop. The devastating crash permanently changed his life.
He is missed by wife Sharon, older brother Perry (and Joanne), children Rick, Scott (and Kim), Julie, and Alison, stepdaughters Stephanie and Shelly, and grandsons Greg and Matt. We hope he looks down on the birth of his first great-granddaughter in September.
Family and friends are invited to attend Doug’s interment at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to McHenry, Illinois Veterans Assistance.
