Don is survived by his wife Melody Zickuhr, his four sons Jerry Edge (Stacy) Gary Zickuhr (Cindy) Kerry Zickuhr (Alison) Eddie Fair (Elizabeth) two daughters Julie Fair and Jessica Perotti (Anthony), Don has fourteen grand children and 9 great grandchildren, his Sister Barbara Kier (two Sons Brian & David Kier).
He was preceded in death by his parents Otto & Eleanor Zickuhr and Brother-in-law Ronald Kier.
Don grew up in the Marengo/Union area, after graduating high School he joined the Navy in 1955; he served in the Construction Brigade (CB’s) traveling abroad to places like Japan and Korea. He was a member of the Marengo Rescue Squad for 20 years, he was one of the first to become a Paramedic in the early 1970’s, and he was voted Chief for several terms during his tenure with the Squad.
He loved snowmobiling with his family traveling to Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
He enjoyed hard work, cutting trees down and spitting wood with his boys.
He also loved driving semi trucks hauling grain or machinery. Don and Melody spent forty years together, they loved traveling to places like the Cayman Islands, also finding places to dance and enjoying each others company, they also enjoyed being home working in the yard and growing their garden and cooling of in the pool after a days work.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, August 13th from 1-5 PM at Miceli’s Banquets located at 19716 East Grant Hwy Marengo, IL. 60152
